I'll admit they were fun and the huge guild battle: jade knights vs am fah was awesome. But I disagree with it being hard, at least on normal mode. I pugged all three quests on first try and had only one monk. These bosses were pretty much only anti melee. Being the only melee, I was the only one the monk really had to heal. Everyone else just stood at the edge of the aggro radar and spammed skills/spells.

Definitely fun though, and their massive health total would probably make it more of a challenge on hard mode. Getting hit in normal by some of the skills took 3/4 of my health so I imagine in hard mode they would one shot me. Though those massive damage skills were completely avoidable I just opted to take the damage so the monk wouldn't get bored, and the golems wouldn't move

I haven't given the missions a try yet, but after reading through this thread look forwards to giving these quests a try tomorrow.

Although it may not be any more difficult to the players who have been playing since the release of the game, from what I have read it'll certainly be challenging for the average player .

While the quests were fun, there's something I'd like to say about the bosses included, and similar bosses in general.

Bosses like NOX and other big bosses dealing massive damage with lots of health don't really work in a game like Guild Wars. This can easily be seen not only in NOX (as Shadowbanex said with Daze) but in numerous other bosses: some can be easily shut down with a blind, others by simply eliminating the stances with a very easy spammable attack (Shiro) and others just by easily interrupting a certain and devastating skill.

If you want bosses to be more challenging and fun, they can't feel like normal mobs that just take forever to kill. They have to be played against and beaten with different mechanics besides setting up a build, such as having to move from a certain area on the map or avoiding a huge radius of fire that is occasionally spewed from the bosses' mouth then you need to keep running from.

And no, this isn't "just like WoW". This is how bosses have been designed way back since the Mario days. That's why they were fun: Not because they were a harder version of your average baddie or that they took an additional two stomps to kill, but because they had to be beaten in an entirely different way - and that was fun (well only if you did it right, otherwise it was just frustrating).

So ANet. Please make your boss fights actual boss fights, and not an extended mob fight.

Everything else was awesome, though : P

Agreed, this is one of the reasons I like the Abaddon fight. You have to take out the monolith guys, then that brings the head down and you have to do as much damage as you can. Only to get out of the way of the daze/kd lightning like effect and dodging the hand attacks best you can. Just alot more to it.

Though I think these bosses were a step in the right direction they had some skills that if you watched for them you could avoid the damage by getting far enough away. Not perfect but better than most in my opinion.

+1 to all positive responses, the large HP amount, imho, serves the purpose of allowing the bosses to enter different phases and not get nuked out in 10 seconds. (Primarily NOX) The jade brotherhood vs Am Fah was fantastic. Any new content is welcome, new items > new titles ^_^. TY ANET <3

The only problem is that that's the *only* thing it does. All the large HP does is draw out the fight with very little variation. It would actually probably be harder if things happened with the boss sooner, since energy wouldn't have all that gain from regen. And again, he can still *very easily* be shut down. Actual *bosses* shouldn't be able to have that done to them. It will always be a boring fight if you give them an Achilles's Hell.

I liked how each mission really felt and played differently:

POX mission because of Jade brotherhood disguise and being allied with them. Plus first time it really felt like you are storming fortress (i guess that was quite unintentional).
ROX mission with adjustable boosts, and optional sub-goal of defending their source from golem overload.
NOX with phases and distractions and Bocca.

They still had some flaws, NOX one, which is basically "bring interrupts or die" and where you have to save NPC that loves to get stuck behind spawning foes.

With BHA not only you can C-space AFK fight, you can literally turn off computer, power it on in five minutes and reconnect to be presented with defeated boss.

After finishing them...

I love them. I think this was a worthy addition to GW, and shows me, at least, that GW1 still has quite a bit of life left in it. My only complaint was that it was a bit short. But the fights and the epic quality was certainly there. Dare I say, more present than in most other parts of the game.

Thanks Anet, I had a lot of fun.

Especially if someone didn't notice that you can take full team, so tried them with a 4 man team............can't imagine who did that

Must say though, that additional content, for free, can’t be bad.

So, as our American brethren say: "Good Job Anet."

This.

I like the fact is wasn't just another generic "run there, kill that" thing. They actually put some effort in those quests and I thank them for it.

It would be great if they were repeatable (with 1/10 of quest reward [5k exp, 1k gold, 1 tonic, 1 summon], or possibly even less).

Well NOX has like 50k hit points and some skills needed to be interrupted like 5 times to stop them so it was something different.

The funniest part was the people out there shouting that it was impossible after I had just killed him with my 10th char (all 13 done now).

But to be entirely honest the best part about it was the 10k reward...although I will admit that it was kinda fun to do. So hey, well done, it kept me playing for 3 more days. ^^

/Agree, I did the same H/H combo I always use and had no new tactics or anything. Missions were fast and easy.

Don't get me wrong I like new stuff, and am glad ANet continues to add new content to the game.

I just didn't see where the OP gets that these require tactics or are even remotely a challenge.

But, 2 thumbs up for New content keep it coming

I'm a cynical old man.

But the Jade Brotherhood/Am Fah part was kinda fun. Anet should have done more of bringing NPC guilds into the game in that manner.

^^^^^^^^^this

It would have been cool to be able to get rep with the Am Fah or Jade Brotherhood. I'm a Necro, what do I care if I'm affiliated with a criminal organization?

Had that happen to me too. After my elementalist and mesmer pretty much cakewalked him, my Warrior took multiple tries - and I think that happened on the second-last try.

I'd have agreed the first time, but the swarm of little golems is fairly easy to keep under control when you know what's going on (and when you put all the priests on one or two shrines that are easily defended and close enough to Salma to defend her as well - I found Grenth, Lyssa and Balthazar to be the best choices). POX at least continues to keep me... well, a little concerned, anyway, while ROX is basically just a big Warrior boss at heart.

Noxious? Plus the Latin for night thing - both of which lead to a necromancer build.

Or it could be obnoxious, which would clearly be a Mesmer...

I have only done the NOX quest thus far, but I had a great time with it and have no complaints. I did not much care for the BMP (too scripted, imo), but this new material seems quite fun to play through.

I appreciate very much the way ANet has added new content that allows us to use our own characters.
